Julia Maruca is a reporter covering Pittsburgh city government at 90.5 WESA, Pittsburgh’s NPR affiliate station. She grew up in Wexford, Pennsylvania, and is a Boston University graduate. During her time at BU, she studied journalism as well as French and environmental science.

Previously, Julia reported for the Tribune Review’s Greensburg newsroom, covering Hempfield, Greensburg, and health care news, and at the Butler Eagle newspaper’s Cranberry office, covering southwestern Butler County. She has also had stories published in the Boston Globe and the Penn Capital-Star, and has interned with 90.5 WESA and Pittsburgh City Paper, Pittsburgh’s alt news weekly.

While at Boston University, she wrote community and feature stories for the BU student newspaper, The Daily Free Press, and science pieces for the Emerald Review environmental publication. Her senior project was Disappearing Boston, a science journalism podcast about living in a coastal city in the path of future climate change and sea level rise.
